Starting this Wednesday (15), police officers who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 in Italy will be removed from work, will have their salaries suspended and will be left without their badges and weapons.
The obligation concerns the primary vaccination cycle – with two doses of AstraZeneca, Modern ou Pfizer or the single dose of Janssen – and also the booster dose, which is now available to all adults.
The circular determines that this Wednesday the heads of the departments of the State Police check the vaccination status of all employees.
If you have not been immunized, the police officer will have five days to prove the vaccination schedule and, while waiting for the cycle to complete, you can continue working by performing PCR.
If the agent refuses to take the vaccine, the State Police will consider him absent without justification and order his suspension from work for up to six months. During this period – or until he is vaccinated – the police officer will not receive a salary and will have his badge, weapons and handcuffs revoked.
Exercising as a police officer without authorization will result in fines of 600 to 1,5 euros (between R$ 3,8 and R$ 9,6), while delegates who do not supervise their teams may be punished with sanctions of 400 to 2,5 euros (R$ 6,4 to R$ XNUMX).
“We hope that this will give a new impetus to the [vaccination] campaign”, said this Tuesday the Italian Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese. In addition to police officers, school employees will also be required to be vaccinated, a measure that already affects healthcare professionals.
Currently, 77% of the Italian population has already completed the first cycle of immunization, but the government wants to increase this rate to contain the current upward trend in Covid cases and minimize any effects of the spread of the Ômicron variant.
Unvaccinated people are already prohibited from entering places such as sporting events, concerts, parties and indoor areas of bars and restaurants, and the government requires a certificate of immunization, cure or negative test in all workplaces. (Handle)
