Brazilian actress Giovanna Antonelli celebrated her Italian roots by hosting the opening ceremony of the 19th edition of the Italian Film Festival, held at the Ibirapuera Auditorium, in São Paulo, on the evening of last Thursday (7).
The artist, who recently returned from Italy, where she posed in front of the Colosseum and also appeared throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain in Rome, put on a show of elegance and charm, walked the red carpet at the event, and posed for photos with fans.
In an exclusive interview with ANSA, the artist expressed her happiness at being chosen as the master of ceremonies for such an important event for Brazilian and Italian cultures. “For me to feel more Italian, all that’s missing is ‘parlare italiano’. It’s a pleasure to be here today,” she declared, joking about her “Belpaese” accent.
Finally, Antonelli highlighted that she had been “thinking about the possibility of presenting the festival for a few years” but could not fit it into her schedule. “I am very happy and grateful to be here today, representing my roots,” she concluded.
On stage at the gala, the actress also said several words in Italian, such as “Piacere” and “Vá bene”. “Guys, I’m taking risks, when I can I’ll say it. What if I get invited to take part in an Italian film? Brazilians can do it all”, she joked.
Away from TV since “Travessia”, when she played the famous police officer Helô, Antonelli returns to acting from January 2025, in “Beleza Fatal”, Max's first Brazilian soap opera, which also features Camila Pitanga and Camila Queiroz in the cast.
The Italian Film Festival runs until December 8th and offers a menu of 32 films from the European country for free, including 17 contemporary features and a retrospective with 14 classics to pay homage to Italian comedy, from “Totò to Roberto Benigni”.
