Parliamentarians met to demand the reopening of productive activities in Italy
“We are here to give voice to the silence of so many, to the silence of the innocent.” This was the tone of the speech by Giorgia Meloni, president of the Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, which has historical ties with the now-defunct neo-fascist party Italian Social Movement (MSI).

The protest held Tuesday afternoon in Rome brought together far-right Italian parliamentarians to demand the reopening of productive activities in Italy.
Protected with masks in the colors of the Italian flag, politicians asked that the reopening schedule announced by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte be voted on by Parliament – the measures will be in a decree by the Prime Minister himself (DPCM), which is not subject to analysis by the Legislative.
“We need to speak clearly: we are here to say that there is no resumption”, said Meloni.

Gradual reopening of activities
In quarantine since March 10, Italy began reopening economic and social activities, but the schedule frustrated some Italians, who expected more aggressive measures, increasing pressure on Prime Minister Conte to accelerate the reopening schedule.
However, Conte remains unyielding and relies on the opinions of a scientific committee that advises him in the fight against the pandemic. “We announced a few steps forward. It’s not enough for some, but we couldn’t do more”, said the prime minister this Tuesday, adding that the risk of the contagion returning “is very concrete”.
From May 4th, Italians will be able to return to parks, buy takeaway food, and hold funerals, provided that social distancing and hygiene rules are respected. Schools, however, are expected to reopen only in September, at the start of the school year.
More than 200 people have already been infected in Italy, and the pandemic has killed more than 27.
