Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni began a surprise diplomatic mission to the Gulf on Friday (3).

The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, landed this Friday (3) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The trip marks the beginning of a surprise two-day mission through the Gulf region. The itinerary includes stops in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

Meloni is the first leader from the European Union, the G20, and NATO to visit the region since the start of the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The trip comes at a time of heightened regional security tensions.

According to sources at Palazzo Chigi, the central objective of the mission is to strengthen Italy's energy security. The Gulf is an essential source of oil and gas for the country. The region is also strategic for the stability of global energy prices.

The mission seeks to consolidate bilateral relations and reaffirm Italian support in the face of Iranian attacks. Official sources state that the intention is to create an increasingly solid strategic partnership with Arab nations.

During her two-day visit, the Prime Minister will meet with key local leaders. The agenda for the meetings includes energy cooperation and regional security. Meloni intends to strengthen strategic ties between Italy and the Gulf countries.

The visit comes just days after an important statement by the Prime Minister. Meloni stated that Italy will not participate in military missions to break the Iranian blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.

The strait is the main maritime route for the flow of oil and natural gas from the Persian Gulf. The Italian decision maintains the focus of diplomacy on economic cooperation and regional stability without direct military involvement in the blockade.
