The Italian was discovered by Marvel Comics in an international talent search.
Sara Pichelli is the only Italian nominated for an Oscar. The comic book artist, born in the city of Porto Sant'elpidio, is among the illustrators of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider Universe”, the feature film competing for the Best Animated Feature statuette, along with four other titles.
For the production of the film, a new technique was created that combines Sony Pictures Animation technologies with the style of the comic book artists involved in the project. In January this year, this innovation won the Golden Globe for Best Animation for the film.
Pichelli, 35, was discovered by Marvel Comics in an international talent search. She worked in the comics sector for IDW Publishing, and after collaborating on several Marvel titles, such as Namora, the Italian was invited as main artist on the second volume of Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man. She built her career in animation working as a storyboard artist, character designer, and comic book artist. In 2011, Pichelli won an Eagle Award for Favorite New Artist.
