The song "Con te partirò" ("Time to say goodbye"), famously sung by Tuscan tenor Andrea Bocelli, is the most beloved Italian song in the world, according to partial results of an online survey conducted by the Società Dante Alighieri in various countries on the occasion of the 75th Sanremo Festival.
The podium continues with “Nel blu dipinto di blu”, by Domenico Modugno, and “Azzurro”, by Adriano Celentano.
The top 10 also includes “L'italiano” (Toto Cutugno); “Con te parteò”, in the Italian version by Luciano Pavarotti; “Felicità” (Romina and Albano); “Un'estate italiana” (Gianna Nannini); “La solitudine” (Laura Pausini); “O sole mio”; and “Sarà perchè ti amo” (Ricchi e poveri).
According to research conducted by Professor Fabio Caon of Ca' Foscari University, the Sanremo Festival, which runs until February 15, contributes to the spread of Italian music around the world, as evidenced by hits such as "Grande Amore" by Il Volo; "Soldi" and "Tuta gold" by Mahmood; and "Zitti e buoni" by the band Maneskin.
"Italian music is one of the main national symbols, as demonstrated by the widespread use of the Italian language in classical music."
“Valuing the songs of Sanremo is a level of cultural diplomacy that only Italy has, which makes us known throughout the world and which we want to value,” said the secretary general of the Società Dante Alighieri, Alessandro Masi. (HANDLE)
