Northern Italy is home to the cities with the best quality of life in the country, according to the most recent edition of the ranking drawn up by the economic newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore , published this month.
Bolzano, in Trentino-Alto Adige, Gorizia, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and Lecco, in Lombardy, are the municipalities that lead in quality of life according to different age groups: elderly, young people and children, respectively.
The city of Bolzano was the best rated for people over 65. The highlight is the low consumption of medication for chronic diseases, considered one of the main social costs for this population, and the wide presence of public libraries.
Gorizia, which will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025, is aimed at young people. Factors such as a strong university presence, good opportunities for permanent employment and a lower average age for women to have their first child ensured its prominent position in the ranking.

Lecco stood out as the best place for children. The municipality had a high participation of minors in sports activities, good academic performance and low juvenile crime rates.
Despite the concentration of cities in the north of the country, the south also showed good indicators. In Sicily, Trapani was considered a reference for the elderly, while Caltanissetta stood out for the quality of life offered to children.
