In a collaboration between Brazilian and Italian authorities, the Federal Police (PF) launched an operation this Tuesday (10) that dismantled an international drug trafficking and money laundering network.
Operation Mafiusi, which also had the support of the Spanish Civil Guard, Europol and Interpol, dismantled separate mafia groups that were trafficking large quantities of cocaine from South America to Europe.
In total, authorities made 23 arrests, five in Italy and 18 in Brazil. In the European nation, the targets were mainly members of the 'Ndrangheta mafia operating in the province of Piedmont.
In addition to international drug trafficking, the captured criminals were involved in a money laundering scheme that moved billions of reais between 2018 and 2022.
The preventive arrest and search and seizure warrants were served at addresses in Spain and in the states of São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul and Roraima.
The security forces also blocked assets totaling around R$126 million. (HANDLE)
