Italian group Illy buys famous UK chocolate brand

Inspired by the book and film “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, by Roald Dahl, Prestat – a famous chocolate brand in the United Kingdom – now has Italian blood.

The Italian group Illy announced the purchase of the brand, which according to the company's president, Riccardo Illy, had already been interested in Prestat for at least two years. Currently, Illy already owns the “Chocolatier Domori” and “Dammann Frères” chocolates.

The value of the negotiation was not revealed, but Domori recorded sales of 18,3 million euros in 2018, half of which came from chocolate. In total, Prestat made £7 million in sales in the same period.

The agreement aims to guarantee Illy the best distribution for its products through Prestat's marketing network in the UK, especially at a time when consumer demand for luxury chocolate and food in general is on the rise.
