60 free train tickets for young people living in the European Union. And it's not a prank. The program is promoted by DiscoverEU and aims to promote the tourism in Europe.
Launched in 2018, the program has already distributed 30 free tickets. Around 350 signed up to participate in the program, of which 59% were final year high school students.
Italy was one of the most active countries: there were almost 10 thousand requests, for around 3 thousand tickets distributed.
The draw is based on the percentage of the population of each Member State of the European Union.
After the forced stop in 2020, the DiscoverEu the opportunity to visit the countries of the Union by train doubled: from 30 thousand to 60 thousand tickets.
How to participate
To compete for one of the 60 thousand train tickets, young people need to have completed 18 years until June 30, 2020. Living in one of the European Union countries is another requirement.
Travel on the European continent can be made between March 2022 and March 2023.
Program winners will gain access to train travel unlimited travel for 30 days on the desired routes.
In total, there are 250 kilometers of railways in Europe to travel.
The DiscoverEu project already has financing guaranteed until 2027.
“The program represents an important injection of confidence for the relaunch of a virtuous mobility project, which aims to include and support culture for young people, train travelers, to discover Europe”, explained Gianfranco Battisti, CEO of state Railways, the most important Italian railway company.
