TAP decided to close Maintenance and Engineering Brazil (TAP ME) operations, as part of the restructuring plan approved by Brussels in December.

According to José Gomes Ferreira, an analyst at SIC, what happened with TAP in recent weeks was what happened with the New bank in 2014: the company was divided.
In the “good” TAP “there are some European routes and those to Latin America and Africa that are profitable, and some aircraft and slots.” In the “bad” section, “there was a set of things that we still don’t really know”, explained Ferreira.
In an analysis in Jornal da Noite, he also stated that it will be Portuguese taxpayers who will have to pay tens, “if not hundreds, of millions of euros” in compensation and termination of contracts in Brazil.

But the restructuring of the Portuguese air carrier does not stop there. There are other companies that may be at stake, namely, Portugal – “which never made a profit” – and the Groundforce.
“Perhaps we will only know the negative consequences of the bad TAP after January 30th, but the social, economic and financial damages should already be known”, he concluded.
The decision of TAP closing operations in Brazil does not affect the purchase of airline tickets.
