The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, signed this Thursday (30) a measure that once again prohibits fireworks shooting during New Year.

On his Twitter profile, Gualtieri said that the veto aims to “protect the safety of adults and children, who are often victims of accidents, and avoid terrorizing animals and polluting the environment”.

"Let's celebrate the New Year safely”, added the center-left mayor, who took office in October.

Last New Year's Eve, the then ruler of the capital, Virginia Rages, had also banned fireworks, but the rule was ignored by many citizens.

The measure signed by Gualtieri is valid until January 6 and provides for fines of up to 500 euros (R$3,2) for anyone who violates the rule. (HANDLE).
