On the afternoon of Thursday, February 8, 2024, the deputy Fabio Porta, affiliated to the Democratic Party (PD), once again used the plenary of the Italian parliament to emphasize the need for agility in the National Driver's License (CNH) conversion agreement between Brazil and Italy.
Incisively, Port highlighted the relevance of the agreement, emphasizing that it transcends the diplomatic sphere, representing a deep and ancient connection between the two countries. “It is a significant agreement, not only because it is signed between countries with deep and ancient ties of friendship. I emphasize to my colleagues that this year we celebrate 150 years of Italian emigration to Brazil, where more than 30 million of our descendants live”, said the parliamentarian.
The agreement, in force since January 13, 2018, was valid for five years. However, Brazil and Italy chose not to automatically renew this pact in January 2023, which previously facilitated the mutual recognition of driver's licenses issued by both countries.
Porta warned of the significant practical consequences of the absence of this bilateral agreement on CNH conversion between Brazil and Italy. He highlighted the delicate situation of thousands of citizens unable to carry out their jobs after the agreement expired.
The Supreme Court reaffirmed: citizenship is born with the person.

“This specific agreement serves thousands of Italian citizens in Brazil, Brazilians in Italy, who today, more than a year after the expiration of the validity of this agreement, are no longer able to carry out their work”, he highlighted.
By using the Italian plenary, the deputy reinforced his direct appeal to the Italian government, requesting maximum urgency in renewing the agreement. “I ask through you, president, that the government listens not to my voice, but to that of thousands of people who need a simple agreement that meets their work needs,” said the parliamentarian.
