Former President of the United States Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, chose the Ligurian coast of Italy for a few days of relaxation. The trip took place in the second half of September 2025 and was based on filmmaker Steven Spielberg's luxurious yacht, anchored near Portofino.
The couple arrived discreetly at Genoa airport. Michelle arrived first, enjoying a few days of tranquility in Santa Margherita Ligure. Barack joined his wife shortly after, and they both boarded the Seven Seas, a yacht measuring over 80 meters, valued at around US$ 250 million (approximately R$ 1,33 billion).
The friendship between the Obamas and Spielberg is well-known. This isn't the first time they've shared trips. In 2023, Michelle also visited Liguria, accompanied by friends like Tom Hanks, on the same yacht.

Riviera Tour
The yacht sailed past iconic locations on the Italian Riviera. After days anchored in front of the famous Portofino square, it continued on to the bay of San Fruttuoso, where a medieval abbey sits nestled between the sea and lush vegetation. It was then sighted near Camogli, attracting tourists and onlookers.
With no official commitments, the couple maintained a low profile and avoided public appearances. This choice reinforces the region's appeal to international celebrities seeking natural beauty and privacy.
Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli, and Portofino form some of the most exclusive stretches of the Italian coast. With easy access from international airports and unspoiled landscapes, these destinations are sought after by celebrities seeking peace and quiet.

The visit renewed international attention on Liguria. Amidst the glamour and simplicity of the villages, the Obamas' presence brought visibility without interfering with local life.
