The Italian government reported last Wednesday (2) that an attack Hackr hit several confidential information systems, including the websites of the Ministries of Justice and Finance and the Italian companies Tim and Telespazio.
The main suspect in the cybercrimes is 24 years old and works in the IT sector in Rome.
He was arrested last Tuesday (1st) after using five false identities to commit the offenses.
According to authorities, the young man, whose identity has not been revealed, was able to access investigation files covered by investigative secrecy, but did not have access to documents on anti-terrorism.
“It was a serious attack that caused damage to security,” said national anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Melillo.
Authorities also revealed that the first violations were discovered in Naples, in the south of the country. The prosecutor of the capital of Campania, Nicola Gratteri, explained to the press that, after the threat caused by the criminal, “we decided to no longer use emails, WhatsApp and other similar tools”.
“We actually went back to the drawing board out of fear that [the hacker] might intercept something,” Gratteri added.
According to the president of the Anti-Mafia Commission, Chiara Colosimo, the invader's objective was to “obtain data covered by investigative secrecy, thus undermining the fight against organized crime”.
Now, the alleged hacker must answer for the crimes of aggravated unauthorized access to facilities and dissemination of malware and software programs in collaboration with unknown persons. (HANDLE)
