The Ema Klabin House Museum, in São Paulo, will host on March 29, from 11 am to 13 pm, a lecture dedicated to the painter Sofonisba Anguissola (1532-1625), one of the main names of the Italian Renaissance.

The event will be led by art history specialist Maria Cristina Achcar, who will present her research on the trajectory and pioneering work of Anguissola, whose work has been rediscovered and valued in recent years.

Although her work was admired by other great names of the period, such as Michelangelo, and she was chosen as the painter of Spanish royalty, the talent of the artist born in Cremona, in northern Italy, was “overshadowed” in History due to her gender.

“His works, until recently, were wrongly attributed to male colleagues, such as Titian, due to the sophistication of its painting techniques and strategies”, explains the Ema Klabin House Museum in a statement.

Registration for the lecture on Anguissola must be done on the institution's website and costs R$10, with limited places. (HANDLE)
