"Italy is disappearing": Musk criticizes declining birth rate again with provocative image.

In a short but impactful post, Elon Musk once again drew attention to the Italian demographic crisis. On X (formerly Twitter), the billionaire stated that "Italy is disappearing," commenting on the latest data on the country's birth rate.

The message went viral globally by citing that, in 2024, only 370 births were registered. The fertility rate is 1,13 children per woman, one of the lowest in the world. This number is far below the population replacement rate, estimated at 2,1 children per woman.

Data from Istat shows a continuous downward trend.

According to Istat, the resident population in Italy reached 58,9 million in June 2025, a decrease compared to the beginning of the year. This number confirms a trend of constant population decline, aggravated by factors such as an aging population, low fertility rates, and difficulties for young people entering the job market.

Musk's comment generated immediate reactions. Some considered the tone alarmist, while others argued that the warning helps draw attention to a real problem.

Musk has insisted on the theme since 2022

This is not the first time Musk has addressed the issue. In 2022, he stated that if the declining birth rate trend continued, "there would be no more Italians in the future." In 2023, he returned to the subject with the phrase: "Italy is disappearing!" He also spoke about this during his participation in the Atreju political event in... RomaHe declared: "Civilizations do not die from wars, but when they cease to have children."

For the billionaire, the demographic issue is essential for the survival of societies. "Without new generations, there is no innovation, no economy, and no future," he stated.
