Amid the protests, Italians write to Mattarella: “President, recognize Guaidó”
Venezuelan opponents, led by self-proclaimed interim president Juan Guaidó, took to the streets this Saturday (2) in protest against Nicolás Maduro.
The Italian community in the country took the opportunity to send an open letter to the President of Italy, asking Sergio Mattarella to recognize Guaidó's authority.

In the vote in the European Parliament, Italy was the only one of the 28 European Union countries to veto a resolution to admit Juan Guaidó's role as interim president of Venezuela until new elections.
