Chiquinho Scarpa, or “Count Chiquinho Scarpa”, is a well-known personality in Brazil. Son of a family of Italian-Brazilian industrialists, gained fame for his love of exquisite parties and his romantic relationships.

He is one of the most notorious playboys, as the rich men who frequented high society in Brazilian metropolises were called, surrounded by glamor and beautiful women. This was all widely publicized in the media, which helped him become famous.

Francisco Scarpa Filho was born in September 13th, 1951 in the city of São Paulo. He has two sisters, Fátima and Renata. All children of the businessman Francisco Scarpa and socialite Patsy Scarpa

Known as Count Scarpa, Chiquinho's father said he received this title from Pope Pius XII, for his donations to the church and charitable works, but he preferred that his friends called him Chico. Despite appreciating the informality of treatment, he was a exquisite gentleman.

As proof that good taste passes from father to son, Francisco Scarpa I had symbols of a wealthy life at home, like a picture of Picasso and a Rolls-Royce. Furthermore, he loved parties and, for decades, stayed in a suite at the luxurious hotel Plaza Athénée, whenever I went to Paris. 

In the 1950s, Chiquinho Scarpa always traveled with his parents and sisters to Europe aboard a transatlantic. The family had a dairy cow, which was milked in the basement whenever the young children asked for a bottle.

Chiquinho Scarpa's grandfather, father of his father Francisco, was the Italian immigrant Nicolau Scarpa, creator of Caracu Brewery, owner of several companies and important shareholder at the beginning of the Votorantim Group. He was also the owner of Skol and was proud of having launched the first canned beer in Brazil.

Born in Gioi, a small Italian town in province of Salerno, Campania region, Nicolau arrived in Brazil in 1888, when he was only ten years old, brought by his parents Giuseppe Scarpa e Teresa Scarpa and accompanied by his brother, Domenico Scarpa. Nicolau died on September 26, 1942.

The family settled in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, where Francisco Scarpa, father of Chiquinho, was born, who inherited his father's fortune and had forty farms, as well as a sugar factory, a metallurgical factory and a textile factory.

Francisco passed away at the age of 103, on June 18, 2013, due to complications from a stroke suffered a few months earlier. Widowed since February 2012, when his wife Patsy Scarpa passed away, aged 82, Francisco lived with Chiquinho.

Your first marriage was made in 1998, with Ana Carolina Rorato de Oliveira, better known as Carola Scarpa. The relationship lasted only a year, as Chiquinho and Carola divorced in 1999. Chiquinho's second marriage, between 2007 and 2010, was with Rosimari Bosenbecker.

Habits and fortune

Chiquinho Scarpa's last public girlfriend was Fernanda Rizzi, 39 years old. According to Fernanda's statements to press, the relationship ended due to difference in habits between the couple. While Fernanda liked to wake up early and live the day, Chiquinho maintained opposite habits.

In 2020, when Chiquinho Scarpa tried to get a place in São Paulo City Council, declared to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) a fortune of R$ 1,5 million. But there are controversies, as some of his assets were left out, as they were registered in the name of your company. A mansion he owned, for example, was reportedly put up for sale for R$63 million.

Health of Chiquinho Scarpa

In April 2009, Chiquinho underwent a stomach reduction surgery and had complications in the postoperative period, remaining in a coma for 63 days due to a hospital infection

At 71 years old, Chiquinho Scarpa is currently in recovery process after spending eleven months in hospital and being subjected to ten surgeries, due to complications from diverticulitis in the large intestine.

He even confirmed his presence at the coronation of King Charles III, held on May 6th at Westminster AbbeyOn London, but ended up canceling his presence, due to pharyngitis and having low immunity.

Last Name

According to the Cognomix website, the Italian surname Scarpa derives from nicknames originating from shoemaker profession. There are records from 1419 in the Venice notary archives.

Among its variants are Scarpaci (Sicilian, from Messina and Palermo), Scarpante, present in northern Italy, and Scarpanti, with a lineage between the provinces of Lodi and Milan.
