Next Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 10:30 am, the Fiera Nazionale della Piccola and Media EditoriaThe book launch will take place in Rome (La Nuvola, EUR). “Zélia Gattai Amado and Italian emigration in Brazil” (Zélia Gattai Amado and Italian Emigration to Brazil, in free translation).
The volume, written by Antonella Rita Roscilli and published by Iannone Publisher, in the collection “Quaderni sulle migrazioni”, is part of the celebrations of 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil. The work offers an in-depth and documented historical analysis of the economic and social factors that led millions of Italians to migrate to Brazil between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
The author also explores the transformations in Brazil after the abolition of slavery (Lei Áurea, 1888) and the efforts of governments and businessmen to attract Europeans to the country.
The work also focuses on the life and literary production of Zelia Gattai, a Brazilian writer of Italian descent and wife of the renowned writer Jorge Amado.
The publication has a rich photographic and documentary section, complemented by the introduction of the deputy Fabio Porta, which brings the reader closer to the stories and characters portrayed.
