The Italian ambassador to Brazil, Francis Azzarello, expressed solidarity and closeness to Rio Grande do Sul, which was severely affected by an extratropical cyclone.
This is the worst climate tragedy in the state's history and has already resulted in at least 46 deaths. Additionally, one person died in Santa Catarina, bringing the total number of victims to 47.
“We are all following with great concern and emotion the terrible news coming from Rio Grande do Sul, a wonderful land that I have had the honor of visiting several times and for which we all have great affection”, said the ambassador.
“Linked to Italy by indissoluble historical, linguistic and tradition ties, with an Italian-Brazilian community that has made and continues to make a decisive contribution to the development of the state”, he added.
The new law will now be reviewed by the European Union's courts. And there are European precedents that strengthen the defense of descendants.

According to the statement released by Italian Embassy in BrazilThe Consulate General in Porto Alegre, in collaboration with the state's Civil Defense, has begun collecting donations of essential goods at its headquarters.
