The Italian-Brazilian community in Paraná and Santa Catarina has seen a growth of 153% in the last decade, consolidating itself as one of the largest groups of Italian descendants in Brazil.
According to Consulate General of Italy in Curitiba, by the end of 2023, 160.819 Italian citizens were registered in Aire (Register of Italians Living Abroad) in these two states.
In Paraná, 88.931 Italian-Brazilians were registered, while Santa Catarina had 71.888.
This progress reflects the significant increase in Italian citizenship recognition processes and the modernization of consular services.
Citizenship and modernization drive growth
Between 2023 and 2024The number of Italian citizenship applications "iure sanguinis" processed by the consulate grew by 110,68%, reaching 4.869 recognitions. Meanwhile, citizenship applications from Trentino, governed by Law 379/2000, jumped from 746 to 1.819, an increase of 143,83%.
In addition, the Aire registry also stood out, with 20.403 new citizens registered in 2024, representing a growth of 38,61% compared to the previous year.
Cultural and economic impact
The expansion of the Italian-Brazilian community also boosts the promotion of Italian culture in the region. Events such as the celebrations of 150 years of Italian immigration to Brazil and the Italian Language Week have reinforced cultural identity.
Partnerships with industrial federations of Paraná (Fiep) and Santa Catarina (Fiesc) resulted in new trade agreements, expanding the economic impact of Italian-Brazilian cooperation.
The opening of a consular office in Florianópolis, scheduled for 2025, promises to further facilitate services for the community.
Promising future
With projections to process more than 12 new cases of Italian citizenship "iure sanguinis" by 2026, the outlook for the coming years is for continued growth and integration of the Italian-Brazilian community in the region.
