In 2018, 18.120 requests were received to include the name on the list. The following year there were 20.497 applications. In 2019, the number was lower: 11.546. Orders were all sent by email.
The data is available on the website of the Italian Consulate General in São Paulo.
The deadline to be called upon to present the documents is approximately 12 years.
In 2020, the Consulate General of Italy in São Paulo summoned applicants who submitted applications in 2008, 2009 and 2010, but with the start of the pandemic, work was reduced.

How to submit an application for recognition of Italian citizenship in SP
- Download the application form (link here);
- Fill out the application, by hand or typed, and sign it with a blue or black pen.
- Scan the application and submit it, by email, together with a valid identity document, with a legible signature (the same as the one made on the application) to the email: [email protected] (this is the only email address intended for this function. If the request is sent to another address it will not be taken into consideration).
The subject of the email must be FULL NAME of the applicant and the words “APPLICATION 2021".
The body of the email must include:
- Name of Italian ancestor (Italian who migrated to Brazil);
- Full name of the applicant;
- Acronym with the initials of the applicant's name and surname (Example: FPF, by Fernando Paulo Ferrari);
- Date of birth of the applicant in the format day/month/year;
- Name of any minor child.
The requirement is , that is, each applicant of legal age must send their own email. Minor children must be indicated in the corresponding field of the parent's form. Children born after the application is submitted will be considered automatically included in the application.
After 180 days from the date the email was sent, it will be possible to check the application number on the waiting list, which will be published with the applicant's initials and date of birth, as stated in the body of the email sent.
