The historic site was last seen in 1994. Event is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of tourists
The Italian village of Factories of Careggine it was flooded in 1953 after the construction of the artificial lake Vagli.
The abandoned site reappears every time the water level is lowered — usually for maintenance — and, for the first time in 27 years, the village will appear above the water level.
A representative of the energy company Enel, responsible for managing the reservoir where the village is located, in Careggine (province of Lucca) confirmed that the lake will be emptied in 2021.

In 1994, the last time the water level dropped considerably and the small town became visible, more than a million tourists went there to appreciate the strange and curious remains of the village.
Factories of Careggine dates back to the 13th century and was built by a colony of blacksmiths from Brescia who used iron extracted from Mount Tambura.
It became a “ghost village” between 1947 and 1953, after the construction of the 92-meter-high dam on the Edron stream.
