Economics and statistics courses are expected to have the highest demand for graduates in Italy by 2028. The estimate is 47,1 professionals, according to the periodic report. Excelsior Unioncamere, which makes predictions about the labor needs with higher education in the country.
Next in line are teaching and training courses, with 43,55 professionals expected. This figure reflects, among other factors, the need for generational renewal in the schools' staff.
Engineering ranks third, with an estimated demand of 38,5 graduates. Demand is distributed across the industrial, technological, and energy sectors.
Next comes the medical and sanitary sector, with 37,8 professionals. This number reinforces the need to expand the healthcare infrastructure in both the public and private systems following the pandemic emergency.
In the intermediate range are courses in the legal, political, and social fields, with a projected 27,55 professionals. Civil engineering and architecture courses also remain relevant, with 14 graduates, still linked to public management, infrastructure, and urban regeneration.
Further down the ranking are humanities, philosophy, and history courses, with 11,6 professionals in demand. Language and translation courses account for 6,65.
At the bottom of the list are biological sciences, also with 6,65 graduates expected, and psychology, with an estimated demand of 4,3 professionals.
The data indicates which areas are expected to maintain the highest demand in the Italian job market in the coming years. The survey shows a preference for training related to management, education, technology, and healthcare.
For those choosing a university, the report serves as a guiding tool. At the same time, the numbers do not eliminate the importance of a solid education aligned with the student's interests.
The scenario also points to a change in the profile sought by companies. In addition to a degree, there is a growing demand for professionals with transversal skills, adaptability, and up-to-date training.
