Seventeen years after the murder of Meredith Kercher, the English student killed in Perugia on the night of November 1, 2007, the capital of Umbria is preparing to become the setting for a TV series produced by the American company Amanda Knox for Hulu, Disney's streaming channel.
According to the newspaper “Il Messaggero”, the recordings of the work began last Saturday (2), in Orvieto, and will be carried out in Perugia from Tuesday (5) to Friday (8).
The episodes will be filmed at different points in the historic center, where the installation of the Christmas lights had to be interrupted, after a request from the production team.
In total, there will be eight one-hour chapters that will tell the legal story – with its consequences – of the former Seattle student convicted and later acquitted of the death of her roommate.
The series is produced by Knox herself together with former “Sexgate” intern Monica Lewinsky, protagonist of the sex scandal involving then-US President Bill Clinton.
The official description explains that the series is “based on the true story” of how Knox – ultimately acquitted of the crime – was “wrongfully convicted of Meredith’s murder and chronicles her 16-year odyssey to freedom.”
Now a mother of two, Knox, 36, recounted her experience firsthand in her 2013 memoir, “Waiting to be Heard.” The former student’s story was also the focus of a Netflix documentary and the film “Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy.”
“17 years after Meredith’s tragic death, we still continue to talk about it in the most inappropriate places,” lawyer Francesco Maresca, representing the Kercher family, told ANSA about the news that the filming will also take place in Perugia.
Maresca recalled that the crime was talked about “for years in the courts and then on television and on film sets at the initiative of several producers and Knox who continues to stir up this sad story”.
“I have said several times that silence and remembrance would be appropriate, but evidently for this American the only thing that matters is the profits she obtains from a case that she complains about, but that brought her money and fame,” concluded the lawyer.HANDLE)
