The Immigration Museum of the State of São Paulo will promote the course “Italian Immigration: History, Genealogical Research and Citizenship” on the 20th, 21st and 28th of August.
It will be a face-to-face course, with a total workload of 21 hours, which will present a summary of the history of Italian migration to Brazil and will provide information and practical tips on genealogical research, with an emphasis on the records of Italian migrants.
Furthermore, the course will cover historical and practical aspects of the recognition and granting of Italian nationality.
The meetings on August 20th (Saturday), August 21st (Sunday) and August 28th (Sunday) will be from 10 am to 18 pm, in the auditorium of the Immigration Museum.
Classes will be taught by professor, historian and genealogist Virginio Mantesso; by the historian and researcher at the Immigration Museum, Henrique Trindade, and by the sociologist and genealogist, Daniel Taddone.

Virginio Mantesso
Born in Sorocaba, São Paulo, Virginio Mantesso is a descendant of Italian immigrants, an Italian citizen since 1987 and resident in Italy.
Bachelor in History (USP 1994), organizer and teacher of two face-to-face courses with more than 50 classes in São Paulo and other cities: “Italian Immigration: historical data and competence in genealogical research”, since 2005; and “Elements of Paleography: Reading and transcription of ancient documents”, since 2009.
He conducts studies and research in Brazilian and Italian genealogy, searches for documents for recognition of Italian citizenship, and transcriptions of old documents.

Daniel Taddone
Daniel is a sociologist (FFLCH/USP), postgraduate in Archivistics from the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB/USP) and in Genealogy and Archives from the University of Córdoba (Spain).
President of COMITES NORDESTE (committee of Italians residing in the Northeast region) during the 2015-2021 term and former employee of the Italian Cultural Institute of São Paulo, the Consulate General of Italy in São Paulo, and the Consulate of Italy in Recife.
He writes two monthly columns in the bilingual magazine Insieme about the origins and meanings of Italian surnames and the genealogy of Italian-Brazilian personalities.

Henry Trindade
Henrique Trindade is a historian (FFLCH/USP) and researcher at the Immigration Museum of the State of São Paulo.
He teaches the courses “Researching Family Documents” and “Immigrant Records: History and Research”. Author of the e-book about the Digital Collection of the Immigration Museum.
