Salvador Scalia, former president of Comites Recife, dies at age 67

Scalia was the son of Sicilians who settled in Recife in the 1950s

Salvador Scalia died this Sunday (24), in Recife-PE, aged 67. Hospitalized around 10 days ago for treatment of cancer, the engineer and businessman was one of the most combative presidents of Comites - Comitato degli Italiani all'Estero of Brazil.

Scalia died from complications in his kidneys and liver.

Active member of citizenship groups, facilitating the achievement of Italian citizenship for all descendants and the fight against queues at consulates were their main flags.

Son of Sicilians who settled in Recife in the 1950s, and graduated in mechanical engineering from UFPE – Federal University of Pernambuco –, Scalia is survived by his wife Stefana (Stella) Fregapane, his children Pietro, Roberto and Eduardo and grandchildren.
