Gioacchino Gammino, 61, was arrested on December 17th, but the details of his capture were only revealed this Wednesday, the 5th.
Considered one of the most wanted fugitives by the italian police, Gioacchino lived in the city of Galapagar, which is close to the capital Madrid.
To hide from the authorities, he got married, changed his name to Manuel, worked as a chef and owned a store that sold fruits and vegetables.

The Italian, however, was only found because of an image of the Google Street View. The tool google maps captured the image of two men outside a fruit store called “El Huerto de Manu“. The police then suspected that one of the men photographed was the criminal.

“It’s not like we spend our days scouring Google Maps to find fugitives,” said the case’s prosecutor, Francesco Lo Voi, who led the investigation.
“There were many long previous investigations, which took us to Spain. We were on a good track, with Google Maps helping to confirm our investigations”, added the investigator.
The Italian mobster was wanted for murder and other crimes involving the mafia he participated in. “How did you find me? I didn’t call my family for 10 years,” Gammino was quoted as saying.
