A study organized by the European Commission in partnership with the National Statistics Institute (Istat) showed that many Italians are satisfied with life in their cities.
The survey indicated that the percentage of population satisfaction with life in the country's municipalities in 2023 is generally high, reaching over 80%.
The minimum value recorded throughout the Italian territory was in Taranto, with 47,8%, while the maximum ended up being in Trento, which obtained 95,4%. It was followed by Trieste, Cagliari, Bergamo, Brescia and Bolzano, all with more than 90%.
Furthermore, the city in the Trentino-Alto Adige region ranked first in the European ranking, which is made up of 85 other municipalities on the continent.
Although the percentage is considered high, a small portion of the Italian population believes that the quality of life has improved in the last five years. The study indicates that more than half of the citizens in some cities believe that the situation has worsened, such as in Florence, Sassari, Catania, Parma, Rome, Venice, and Reggio Calabria.
With regard to health services, the highest percentage of satisfaction is found in the North and the lowest in the South, while, in general, Italians are less satisfied with public transport than their European neighbors. (HANDLE)
