Who expected to see George Clooney Just showing off his charm on a red carpet, he surprised everyone this Wednesday (08). The actor was the protagonist of a meeting organized by the Crc Foundation, in the city of Cuneo, in Piedmont (northern Italy), where he spoke openly with students from various cities in the province about politics, rights and the current state of the world.
Direct criticism of Donald Trump
Clooney didn't mince words when analyzing the political landscape of the United States and the figure of the former president. Donald TrumpFor the actor, there is a line that should not be crossed in conservative politics:
“Some argue that Donald Trump is doing very well, but if someone says they want to end civilization, that’s a war crime. You can support the conservative point of view, but there must be a limit of decency, and we must not cross it,” he said, according to the newspaper Corriere della Sera.
Concern about NATO and democracy
The star also expressed concern about the potential dismantling of international institutions that have guaranteed peace in recent decades.
“I’m concerned about NATO; it has made Europe, but also the rest of the world, safe. Dismantling an institution like this worries me,” Clooney stated.
Regarding the Democratic Party and Joe Biden's withdrawal (which was influenced by an editorial written by the actor himself in 2024), he admitted the risk of the maneuver: "We knew what we were doing and that we would lose by a huge margin, we had our backs against the wall. It was a shame we didn't have the primaries."
The dark side of Hollywood
When questioned by a student about abuses in the film industry, Clooney recalled the beginning of his career and mentioned the impact of the Harvey Weinstein case.
“When I was young, directors and producers were lowlifes, they yelled, they didn’t treat the actors well; the actresses, then, were treated even worse. I don’t believe it’s possible to behave like that anymore, and that’s a positive thing,” he explained.
He concluded with a message of hope for the new generation: “We made our mistakes, and we hope that you, young people, can fix them now.”
