It may seem like old news, but it is not. The Italian State Police launched a new operation last Friday (27) against alleged fraud in procedures for recognition of citizenship by right of blood (jus sanguinis) for Brazilians.
The stage this time is the small town of Piombino Dese (Veneto), with 9,5 inhabitants, where investigators discovered a group of Brazilians who provided false documents to their compatriots.
According to police, the scheme involved two municipal employees. The suspects are accused of misrepresentation in public acts and illegal introduction of foreign citizens into national territory.
All procedures carried out in the commune in recent years are under suspicion and may be reviewed. The State Police carried out a search and seizure operation at the civil registry office of Piombino Dese and hijacked documentation relating to citizenship procedures.
