Sorrento bans bikinis and imposes a fine of 500 euros

It is now forbidden to walk around in a bikini, with your belly showing, or without a shirt in Sorrento. The coastal city is one of the best known in southwestern Italy, and is very touristy.

Anyone who does not comply with the new rule will be subject to a fine of up to 500 euros – around R$2.600.

Mayor Massimo Coppola explained that walking around with your body exposed is disturbing residents and warned that this behavior, from now on, will result in punishment.

The municipal chief said that they have recently witnessed “behavior that is seen by most people as contrary to the decorum and decency that characterize civilized cohabitation”, which he fears “will harm the image of the city”.

According to him, “in addition to causing discomfort and discomfort among the resident population and visitors, it could lead to a negative judgment about the quality of life in the city, with consequences for its image and tourism”.

The Municipal Police of Sorrento will patrol the streets to ensure that people do not walk around shirtless or in bikinis.
