Lucky: Airport staff bought clothes and essential goods for the baby and his mother
A Brazilian woman gave birth to a boy in the boarding area of Fiumicino Airport, on the outskirts of Rome, this Tuesday (22).
The woman, called Cristina Vidiani de Jesus Santos, who was traveling alone, felt the contractions shortly before getting on Alitalia flight AZ 678, bound for São Paulo. He had arrived shortly before in Fiumicino from Madrid, Spain.
Santos was quickly rescued by doctors and nurses at the airport, who delivered a 3,2 kg boy.

After the umbilical cord was cut, mother and child, in good health, were transferred by ambulance to the hospital in Ostia, on the outskirts of Rome.
“As soon as we found out what was happening, we felt excitement and a little fear, because it was the first natural birth at the airport,” surgeon Anna Galanou told the Italian press. “The birth was not simple, because the baby was born with the cord around its neck twice,” added the doctor, highlighting that everyone “burst into tears” after the birth.
