The number of people with dual citizenship in Switzerland has increased steadily in recent years. According to the latest research, almost one in five Swiss citizens has a second nationality.
According to the portal's publication Swissinfo, in 2021, 19% of the Swiss permanent resident population aged 15 and over had dual Swiss and foreign citizenship.
Compared to 2010, the proportion of people with dual passports increased by more than 5 percentage points. according to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
According to the agency, 65% obtained Swiss nationality through naturalization, while 35% received it by birth.
According to the FSO, almost one in four binational citizens has Swiss and Italian citizenship.
