Zoo in Italy offers 'popsicle' to animals against heat

The animals of the biopark Zoom in Turin, in Italy, enjoyed “popsicles” made of meat, fish, fruit and cereals this Wednesday (6) to face the heat wave affecting the country.

The initiative is not a publicity stunt, but a real solution found by zoo employees against the high temperatures recorded in recent days.

The gelatos are made to please all palates, both vegetarians and carnivores, and are often hidden or hung in areas of the habitats as enrichment activities, so that the animals have fun searching for and reaching them.

Popsicles are prepared every day and, for carnivores, they contain pieces of meat or fish, while for giraffes, lemurs, meerkats or gibbons, there are pieces of fruit.

A video released by the biopark shows the animals intrigued before and satisfied after the tasting. “An original way of feeding animals and allowing them to tolerate the hot climate of these days better and with pleasure”, says the zoo.

In recent days, Italy has been on alert due to the heat wave that has hit the country, raising temperatures to more than 40ºC in some cities across the nation. (Loop)
