Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses, who died at the age of 66 from an aggressive brain tumor on August 3, will be honored during a concert in Siena, Italy, this Thursday (22).
Entitled “Huellas De Adiós” (“Marks of Your Farewell”, in Portuguese), the show will be held at Palazzo Chigi-Saracini, as part of the Chigiana Internacional Festival & Summer Academy 2024, organized by the Accademia Musical Chigiana.
Violinist Giovanni Puddu will perform, for the first time, the music “Cèladon”, by composer Michele Dall'Ongaro, dedicated to the memory of fellow Italian violinist Oscar Ghiglia, who passed away last March.
According to an official note, “the initiative aims to honor the memory of some great composers who have passed away and, in particular, the two artists and friends of the Accademia Chigiana, who passed away in 2024: Chigian maestro Oscar Ghiglia and the great Brazilian cellist Antonio Meneses, professor from Chigiano since 1997, passed away on August 3rd”.
Among other tributes, the recital will open to celebrate the Spanish composer and guitarist Fernando Sor (1778-1839) and close with a performance dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi. (HANDLE)
