Air traffic controllers and workers at three low-cost airlines have called a strike in Italy for Sunday (17), three unions said on Wednesday (13).
The convening of a national strike, which will last four hours, affects air traffic controllers from the Italian group Enav, as well as pilots and flight staff from EasyJet, Volotea and Ryanair, according to Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Sindicatos Uiltrasporti.
The social movement gains strength in full summer season in Italy.
According to the unions, air controllers suffer from “a clear inability [from Enav] to communicate and manage the team.” Unions threaten new strikes if their demands are not met.
Low-cost airline pilots and flight attendants work in “unacceptable conditions“, said Uiltrasporti. The union accused British airline EasyJet of unjustified dismissals and Spanish airline Volotea of failing to respect minimum wage legislation.
During summer season, several airlines in Europe have multiplied strike calls to demand better working conditions in light of the accelerated resumption of air traffic after the pandemic.
