In the busy Brera area, in Milan, a new French restaurant is attracting attention for its unusual proposal: serving only one dish on the menu. Recently opened, The Road bets on simplicity and has been creating queues at the door since day one.
The restaurant offers a single main course: beef entrecôte with crispy fries, following the traditional model The Entrecote Relay, from Paris.
A single dish, focus on the experience
La Rue's concept is to deliver a distraction-free dining experience. Customers start with a green salad with walnuts and vinaigrette. Then, they choose the meat's doneness—the only decision of the meal.
The entrecôte comes sliced, served with a secret sauce, and accompanied by homemade fries, in unlimited portions. A second round of meat is served later to maintain the ideal temperature. The set menu costs 35 euros and includes microfiltered water and service. Drinks and desserts are charged separately.
Parisian atmosphere in Brera
Located at Corso Garibaldi, No. 79, near the ruins of the church of Santa Febronia, the The Road It recreates the atmosphere of old French brasseries, with warm-toned decor, velvet details and tiled floors.
Although inspired by the French restaurant founded in 1959, La Rue has no direct connection with the The Entrecote Relay. The Milanese project was conceived by a group of real estate investors, who are now considering expanding the model to other Italian cities.
According to the website Milan Today, the formula—one choice, high quality, and a charming ambiance—has won over locals and tourists alike. The initial success indicates that, even in a city with Michelin-starred restaurants and elaborate menus, simplicity can still surprise.
