Bloc asks that there be no 'second wave of uncoordinated actions'
The European Commission issued a statement to all member countries so that there is no “second wave of uncoordinated actions” on the border closure internally as a way to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
According to the letter, obtained by the Associated Press, the agency informs that it understands that it is necessary to “ensure” that there is no new wave of Covid-19 cases, but that it is necessary to “avoid reestablishing ineffective restrictions and controls at internal borders”, It is necessary to take “coordinated and proportional measures based on scientific evidence”.
The alert comes at a time when several governments in the European Union began to impose quarantines for specific European regions, where there are new outbreaks of the disease, as in the case of Germany and Spain.
The European Union decreed the closure of borders on March 17, when several countries had already announced the measure unilaterally.
At the time, the restriction was imposed to prevent cases from spreading, as countries had different levels of spread of Covid-19.
On June 15th, these circulation rules were dropped and, on July 1st, the European Union published the first list of third countries that could visit the countries of the economic bloc.
