Tourism in Italy breaks record during the European summer

Among the main destinations sought after during the Italian summer are Salento, Trapani and the coast of Sicily.

The number of tourists visiting Italy this year broke a record with 2,4 million travelers, 58% more than in 2015, according to the global accommodation rental network “Airbnb”.

Around 80% of passengers come from abroad and have an average stay of more than four days.

In European countries, more than 16 million people visited the region in the summer, a 70% increase compared to the previous year, which saw 9,2 million visitors.

During their holidays, more than 12,5 million Europeans preferred to travel around the continent. In this way, France continued to be the most visited country with 3,6 million tourists. Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Toulouse were the most popular cities.

Spain is also one of the most preferred destinations, with 2,2 million visitors, as is the United Kingdom, which increased by 94% compared to last year, with 1,6 million tourists from the country itself. Favorite places are Edinburgh, Brighton, Cornwall and Devon.
