The province of Trieste, in northeastern Italy, was elected in a survey released this Monday (13) as the leader in quality of life in the country.
The annual survey is carried out by the economics newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore , based on 90 indicators divided into six areas: wealth and consumption; business and work; demography and society; environment and services; justice and security; and culture and free time.
Fifth place in the last two years, Trieste, which is on the border with Slovenia, jumped to first place in 2021, surpassing Milan e Trento, both located in northern Italy.
In fact, the northern part of the country dominates the top 10, which also includes Aosta, Bolzano, Bologna, Pordenone, Verona, Udine and Treviso.
The best placed non-northern province is Rome, in 13th place.
The last 10 among the 107 Italian provinces are all in the south, historically poorer and less developed than the north: Syracuse, Taranto, Caserta, Reggio Calabria, Catania, Caltanissetta, Vibo Valentia, Trapani, Foggia and Crotone, which closes the ranking .
According to Il Sole 24 Ore, the province of Trieste is leader in terms of “culture and free time”, second in “business and work” and fourth in “environment and services”. On the other hand, it is only ranked 97th in “justice and security”.
Milan is at the top of the “wealth and consumption” and “business and work” categories, but is only 104th in “justice and security”.
The other three issues are led by Bologna (demography and society), Pordenone (justice and security) and Oristano (environment and services), on the island of Sardinia. (Handle)
