The biggest snowfall in decades is causing serious problems in Italy.
From Piedmont to Friuli-Venezia Giulia, but also in Liguria, Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany.
The entire Alps and northern Apennines are under a layer of snow that has not been seen for decades, according to local newspapers.
After the heavy snowfalls of December, in the first days of 2021 the snow fell again copiously, accumulating in some areas more than one meter with serious consequences for residents, such as closed roads, high risk of avalanches and roofs at risk.
In Veneto, the most critical situation is on the Asiago plateau and in the Belluno Alps, according to the Courier.
“The Veneto Region is ready to declare a state of crisis and request the declaration of a state of emergency due to the extraordinary snowfalls that are damaging the mountainous areas,” said the representative of Veneto Civil Protection, Gianpaolo Bottacin.

In Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Gorizia Civil Protection responded to the request for help from Carnia, where, due to heavy snowfall, some towns are isolated.
In the Emilian Apennines, there is an avalanche warning due to snow that in some areas has reached two meters high.
Snow delayed vaccine delivery
The distribution of around thousands of doses of the vaccine against the new Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus was delayed due to bad weather.
Several cities in the northern region of Italy were hit by the biggest snowfall in recent decades, which caused blackouts, difficulties in vehicle traffic and fallen trees.
