Soon, cross the border between Italy and Switzerland through the Alps will be easier. A new cable car service in the Matterhorn region, one of the most famous snow-capped peaks in the world, will connect the two countries.
The work is expected to be completed by summer in the Northern Hemisphere, with a total cost estimated at 45 million Swiss francs (R$253 million).
The cable car will connect the ski resorts Gray Head, at 3.458 meters above sea level, in Italy, the Klein Matterhorn (3.821 meters) in Switzerland. The information is from Handle.
The 363-meter difference in level between Zermatt (Switzerland) and Cervinia (Italy) will be completed in four minutes, and the cable car will have 10 cabins designed by the Italian design studio Pininfarina.
The Matterhorn Alpine Crossing will have the capacity to carry around 1.300 passengers per hour, as well as being accessible to wheelchair travelers. The service will also be accessible even for people without skis or snow equipment.
The connection between Zermatt and Cervinia It was an old demand from residents and visitors to ski resorts in both locations.
The Matterhorn (called Cervino in Italy) is one of the Alps' most popular tourist attractions and attracts crowds of skiers and hikers every year.
For those who don't know, Mount Matterhorn illustrates the packaging of the famous Toblerone chocolate.
