“2024 is the centenary of the death of the two great Tuscan composers, Puccini and Busoni. Both works were composed at the same time and share elements of 'commedia dell'arte'. Busoni's Turandot is based directly on Gozzi's play, in which it differs greatly from Puccini's later unfinished masterpiece.
Ironically, Busoni's greatest work, his opera Doktor Faust, was also incomplete at the time of his death in 1924, another example of the destiny that unites these two very different geniuses,” said Levin. (HANDLE)
