The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, Antonio Tajani, declared that Italy and Spain should not “abandon Latin America to Chinese influence”. The statement was made during the Italy-Spain Dialogue Forum, held in Rome this Monday (1st).
According to Tajani, the two European countries share with Latin America "historical, linguistic, cultural and even religious ties," which would justify a broader and more strategic role in the region.
"Italy and Spain must, and need to, play an even more significant role there. Even within the EU, we can push in that direction: much more can be done in South America," said the Italian Foreign Minister.
Tajani argued that Rome and Madrid should intensify political and economic dialogue with Latin American countries and use their influence in the European Union to strengthen the bloc's presence on the continent.
"Italy and Spain can explore these markets both commercially and politically," he stated. According to him, it is necessary "to engage more and more in dialogue and not leave this part of the world at the mercy of the Chinese presence."
During the event, Tajani also addressed the issue of irregular immigration in the Mediterranean. He highlighted the convergence between Italy and Spain on this issue, emphasizing that both are on the front lines of migration routes and need to cooperate more effectively.
"We must work harder and harder to combat irregular immigration and promote legal immigration," he stated.
Finally, the minister highlighted that the aging of the European population and the decline in birth rates require migration policies that favor the entry of skilled workers.
"Our companies need this workforce, which can be integrated into our system," Tajani added.

Dice Tajani in Italy and Spain cannot lose Latino Amarica, but Brazil is a perduto. The “war” against Bolsonaro was a big success since then.
