Italian Premier informed, however, that post-pandemic recovery will be long
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Tuesday (05) that he will talk to the governors of the Italian regions and that he may bring forward some specific reopenings after May 17.
“The regions, each day, will provide updated data. With respect for the rules, I am confident that the epidemiological curve may subsequently decrease in some territories. I do not ignore the requests from some regions and some categories in particular to bring forward the opening of their respective activities. We are also working towards this”, said the premier in an interview with “Affaritaliani.it”.

The speech by the head of the Italian government comes after numerous requests and criticisms, made by governors and business sectors, for a broader relaxation of isolation in places where the number of cases of the new coronavirus (Sars-CoV-2) are more controlled.
According to Conte, decisions will always be taken with the “general interest of protecting the health of all citizens”. However, the Prime Minister warned that the road to recovery “will still be long”, but celebrated the results obtained since the beginning of the easing of the lockdown, which began this Monday (04) across the country.
“The Italians completely showed a great sense of responsibility. In the citizens' reaction, I saw a great desire to start over, but also the awareness that it is necessary to do this while respecting the rules. Commuting on public transport and millions of people returning to work are occurring without any major problems. It is an encouraging first step, but let us not forget that the road is long and we cannot let our guard down”, he also highlighted.
This Monday, Civil Defense reported that the number of active Covid-19 cases was below 100 for the first time since April 10th. In total, 211.938 people were infected by the new virus and 29.079 died as a result of the disease.
