Initiative could benefit more than a thousand couples in Southern Italy
Has getting married in Italy always been a dream of yours? Now you have one great incentive to make this dream come true.
The government of Sicily, in southern Italy, has just approved a program that will distribute up to 3 euros (approximately R$18 at current prices) to anyone who walks up the aisle on the paradisiacal island in the south of the country.
The initiative will be valid until July 2021 and could benefit up to 1,1 couples, according to Ansa.
The project aims to encourage tourism and boost revenue in the region's wedding sector, which has been hit hard by the new coronavirus pandemic.
“It is estimated that our contribution will generate a total turnover of 40 or 50 million euros”, said the Sicilian Secretary of Economy, Gaetano Armao.
According to him, the aid will have a budget of 3,5 million euros and will be valid for both civil weddings and religious ceremonies.
The criteria for obtaining the benefit will still be aligned. The authorities have not yet said whether the program will also apply to foreigners.
“According to recent data, around 70 weddings were canceled in Italy due to the pandemic. The objective is to give a concrete and immediate incentive to companies in the sector and to engaged couples”, highlighted the Secretary of Family of Sicily, Antonio Scavone.
The island is one of the most popular destinations in Italy. The region is known for its natural beauty and historic buildings.
