With no solution for the implementation of the agreement on the recognition of driving licenses between Brazil and Italy, Brazilians residing in Italy and Italians residing in Brazil resort to a undersigned to pressure the Brazilian Congress and speed up approval.
The measure is seen as urgent to guarantee the mobility and quality of life of Brazilians living in Italy, who face difficulties in working and getting around.
Although Brazil and Italy renewed the agreement in July, during the visit of Italian President Sergio Mattarella to Brazil, the implementation process faces new obstacles.
The agreement allows Brazilians and Italians to convert their National Driver's Licenses (CNH) without the need for new theoretical and practical exams, making life easier for workers and families who depend on vehicles for their daily activities.
With the delay in ratification, drivers face serious obstacles. Without the agreement, many Brazilians in Italy continue to have difficulty driving legally, affecting their ability to work and access opportunities.
In areas with limited public transportation, this could mean job losses and restricted mobility for essential activities.
Faced with this situation, Italian-Brazilians launched a petition to pressure the authorities to speed up ratification.
The petition — which by the time this article was published had almost 500 signatures — aims to raise awareness in the Brazilian Congress about the urgency of the measure, which not only benefits drivers, but promotes the social and economic integration of the Brazilian community in Italy.
The objective is to eliminate barriers that make life difficult for those living outside their country of origin, ensuring rights and a better quality of life.

Public Petition: Support for the Approval of the License Conversion Agreement between Brazil and Italy
To: Distinguished Members of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Senators and Federal Deputies
To the authorities and representatives of the National Congress,
We, Brazilians living in Italy and Italians living in Brazil, urgently request your intervention to speed up the approval of the driver's license conversion agreement between Brazil and Italy, currently under consideration by the National Congress. This agreement will allow for the direct conversion of Brazilian National Driver's Licenses (CNH) to Italian ones, and vice versa, without requiring additional exams, bringing countless benefits in terms of mobility and social integration for our citizens living abroad.
Why is the Agreement important?
The signing of this agreement represents a significant step forward not only for Brazilians residing in Italy, but also for Italians living in Brazil. The possibility of converting a driver's license facilitates the exercise of activities that require mobility, contributing to economic and social inclusion.
Furthermore, it would reduce the impact of costs related to additional exams and training that are currently required to obtain a new license in the country of residence.
The current lockdown has created serious obstacles to the daily lives of hundreds of people, directly affecting their ability to work and access opportunities. Many Brazilians living in Italy, especially those living in remote areas with little or no public transport, are losing their jobs due to their inability to drive. The situation is equally difficult for Italians living in Brazil, where the lack of access to mobility has impacted the quality of life of entire families. For those with family members with disabilities, for example, the difficulty of getting around becomes an even greater challenge, making it difficult to integrate and exercise citizenship. This lockdown not only limits professional and personal opportunities, but also compromises full access to basic rights and social inclusion.
We are counting on the sensitivity of our representatives to promote the approval of this important measure, which will promote greater integration and mobility for our citizens. We therefore ask for the support of all those who understand the importance of this issue and the relevance of eliminating the barriers that make life difficult for those who, for various reasons, have chosen to settle outside their country of origin.
