The former deputy Renata Bueno stated on Tuesday, the 15th, that the 2017 recording circulating on social media suggesting that she advocates limiting the Italian citizenship by descent.
According to Renata, the content originated from a montage made by political opponents and had already been previously denied.
“It’s reheated fake news, used for over 10 years. I’ve never been in favor of limiting Italian citizenship. On the contrary, my position has always been in defense of the community abroad,” he stated.
A video from November 2017 is circulating on social media, in which the then Italian deputy Renata Bueno, elected by the South American Union of Italian Emigrants (USEI), defends the imposition of generational limits for the recognition of Italian citizenship by descent.
"Noi, we welcome a rappresentation Iure Sanguinis, but it is important to discuss whether to set a limit to generation“, she says in the released excerpt, which can be translated as: “We have a representation by blood right, but it is time to discuss a generation limit”.
She harshly criticized those responsible for spreading the video. “This is a case of Internet banditry,” she said. She also stated that lawyers are already handling the case and that appropriate measures will be taken with the police authorities.
“I don’t have the patience or stomach to deal with this kind of people. Our lawyers are the ones taking care of this, including forwarding it to the police so they can take the necessary measures,” he says in the video published on his social media.
Renata stressed that an original video, recorded in the Italian Parliament, proves her position against the proposed restriction. “They completely distorted my speech. I was debating a project that was being processed in the Chamber of Deputies, but always in defense of the Italian-Brazilian community.”
She says she is working with deputies, senators and representatives of the Italian community to find solutions that make the new rules more flexible. Among the proposals under discussion are extending the right to citizenship to the fourth generation and creating transition periods for those in the waiting list.
“I am a great-granddaughter, I am a great-great-granddaughter and, like many of you, I fight for this great bond of love for Italy,” she declared.
